Overlay line

With the overlay line, you can define the position of the overlay in time relative to the composition beginning, adjust its trimming parameters, and position the match frame.

an overlay

The overlay is displayed in the line as a green bar [1] delimited at both ends by the trimming markers [2] which you can drag to trim the part of the overlay visible in the composition. Trimmed overlay footage is displayed as a gray bar (the C interval) and is not visible during previewing and rendering.

Dragging the overlay bar by clicking the mouse button inside the green area (A, B) results in displacement of the overlay footage in time relative to the composition:

  • In case of a live overlay, there may be initial correspondence between the underlay and the overlay frames. In such case, displacing the overlay may be necessary only for correction of its erroneous positioning during the import operation.

  • In case of a still overlay, its footage is considered to have the same duration as the underlay, thus no displacement is necessary.

Dragging the overlay bar by the gray (trimmed) area (C) displaces the overlay in time and changes its trimming accordingly such that the range of visible frames is fixed relative to the beginning of the composition.

Dark-green color (A) on the overlay bar indicates a continuous interval which is covered by segments and contains the match frame. Inside such interval, PatchMaker can generate, on the basis of data from the transformation layer, an image of transformed overlay which will be used for both previewing and rendering.

Match
frame

The position of the match frame is shown on the overlay line by the marker [3]. It is counted off from the beginning of the composition, and its displacements are not confined by the overlay span.
