Stabilizing Suppose the motion of an object was estimated for a continuous range of frames and one of them was selected as a fixing frame. If we now transform all other frames such that the object movement with respect to the fixing frame is cancelled, we shall get a sequence in which the selected object is at rest (holding the same position as in the fixing frame). Meanwhile, all other objects and the background will acquire additional motion:
This operation is called object stabilizing and is often applied to background to eliminate camera jerks typical when video is filmed with hand-held camera. In the latter case it is called background or frame stabilizing. Just as in the case of overlay application, if the output layer has gaps, the object (background) is stabilized only in the continuous part that includes the fixing frame. |

To switch between applying overlay and stabilizing, change Task property of the composition. The position of the fixing frame is set by the match frame slider (see overlay line in the Trackline panel). See Tutorial 2 for a detailed do-it-yourself example of background stabilizing. |
